Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom to have hernia surgery

DETROIT – Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom will miss up to five weeks because of another hernia surgery, but should be healthy for the playoffs.

General manager Ken Holland said Holmstrom, who has missed the past three games, will have surgery on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Holmstrom has 30 points (14-16) in 40 games this season.

He had hernia surgery last June after playing throughout the playoffs with the injury.
