Ducks open season-long road trip in Detroit

DETROIT (Ticker) — The Anaheim Ducks will open a critical
six-game road swing against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday in a
meeting between the last two Stanley Cup champions.

Two years removed from their championship season, the Ducks are
in ninth place in the Western Conference – one point out of the
final playoff spot.

Anaheim starts their longest trip of the campaign at Joe Louis
Arena, where the Ducks have had little success in their 15-year
history. Anaheim has posted a dismal 3-20-3 all-time record in

The Ducks will try to end that trend and avoid a third
consecutive loss. Ryan Getzlaf netted a goal and set up two
others during Wednesday’s 4-3 setback to the Los Angeles Kings.

The defending champion Red Wings avoided a third straight defeat
Wednesday with a 6-2 victory over the Nashville Predators.

Captain Nicklas Lidstrom and Johan Franzen each recorded two
goals and an assist for Detroit, which owns a 21-4-3 record at
home this season.
