MONTREAL – Scott Niedermayer is going to play another season.
The Anaheim Ducks defenceman pondered retirement before deciding Friday that he wanted to return.
The 35-year-old had 59 points last season.
News of his return filtered through the draft floor and was welcomed by Steve Yzerman, the executive director of Canada’s 2010 Olympic team.
Niedermayer is a good bet to be part of that squad.
“I just found out half an hour ago,” said Yzerman. “Obviously happy. I thought he had an excellent year, got stronger as the year went on and played outstanding in the playoffs. There’s going to be some younger players on the D so I think it’s important to have some of those veterans that have been there and he’s one of those.”
