CLEVELAND – Chris Durno and Ryan Stoa each scored two goals as the Lake Erie Monsters beat the Manitoba Moose 5-2 in American Hockey League action Saturday.
Darren Haydar added a short-handed goal for Lake Erie (2-4-0).
Matt Pettinger and Evan Oberg each scored their first of the season for the Moose (5-3-0).
Lake Erie scored on its first two shots of the game. Durno beat Moose goaltender Daren Machesney through his pads to open the scoring, then 34 seconds later Stoa gave the Monsters an early two-goal lead.
Pettinger put the Moose back within one when a rebound went off his skate and past Lake Erie goaltender Tyler Weiman.
The Monsters regained their two-goal lead early in the second period on Stoa’s power-play goal, then went up 4-1 when Durno scored on a breakaway.
The Moose extended their power-play-goal streak to six games and cut the lead to 4-2 when Oberg scored with a shot from the blue-line.
Haydar capped the scoring in the third period when he beat Machesney low under his glove.
Weiman made 19 saves while Machesney stopped 17 shots.
