Dusk til Dawn: So shines a good save in a scoring world

Ten games were played last night – and that’s a lot of information to process. We’ve got all the major highlights right here so you won’t have to worry:

Essential Water Cooler

Defense and goaltending were the stories of the night, as nine of the ten games saw the losing team fail to score more than two goals. In fact, nine of the ten winning goalies last night had save percentages above .920, and three of them had save percentages of .950 or above: Tuukka Rask, Jaroslav Halak, and Jonathan Quick. Who said goaltender equipment rule changes were going to increase offense? These guys seem better than ever.

Primetime Play

In a beautiful power play sequence, the Penguins Jussi Jokinen stole the puck along the boards and started a tic-tac-toe passing play that would make even Wayne Gretzky blush.

1. Ryan Johansen, Columbus – The young center scored a nice breakaway goal and added two assists in the Blue Jackets’ 5-2 win over the Islanders

2. Patrick Sharp, Chicago – On a night when the Blackhawks were pretty dominant to begin with, Sharp assisted on four of the five Chicago goals and led the team to a 5-2 victory against the Stars.

3. Tuukka Rask, Boston – Continuing his great start to the season, Rask stopped 34 of 35 shots and helped lead the Bruins to a big win over the Maple Leafs.

Better Luck Next Time

Justin Peters might is going to want to forget this highlight, as Minnesota’s Zach Parise deked him so far out of his crease, a mite on ice could have scored. Or maybe there’s just no defending someone with Parise’s talent? Either way, quite an embarrassing outcome.
