If you’ve ever felt like wasting away in Margaritaville, Feb. 27 is just one of the days that the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones wants to see you at the U.S. Bank Arena. Cincinnati, like many of the other franchises in the ECHL, knows that part of running a successful minor-league hockey franchise in a tough market is appealing to the masses with fun, themed jerseys and special event nights. That’s why the Cyclones have released specialty jerseys and game-day giveaways or events for five separate nights this season:
Beginning on Saturday, Nov. 15, the Cyclones will roll out the first of the set with special Star Wars themed R2-D2 jerseys. The game will also include light saber giveaways to the first 1,500 children in attendance, appearances by some of the famous film franchises characters, and the jerseys will then be auctioned off for charity. Star Wars night will be followed up by an Ugly Sweater game just in time for the holiday season. After the game on Dec. 20, season ticket holders will get to skate with the team. January will be Pink in the Rink night to support the local breast cancer foundation, and in March the team will wear Iron Man themed jerseys for Superhero Night. But the real kicker is in February, when the Cyclones go all-out for “Parrothead” night, when the Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers affiliate honors Jimmy Buffett. The first 2,000 fans will receive a beach towel, there’s beer sampling and appetizers, and the music of Jimmy Buffett, as played by a local band. Some people claim low attendance may be to blame, but you should know, it’s nobody’s fault.
