Edmonton Oilers sign forward Robert Nilsson to three-year contract

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers signed right-winger Robert Nilsson to a three-year contract Saturday.

Nilsson set career highs in 2007-08 with 10 goals and 31 assists in 71 games. He finished sixth on the Oilers in scoring.

The agreement comes a day after defenceman Tom Gilbert signed a US$24-million, six-year deal.

The 23-year-old Nilsson was obtained from the New York Islanders as part of the Ryan Smyth trade last year.

In 128 career NHL games, Nilsson has 17 goals and 45 assists.
