Emmerton scores twice, Haydar records three assists as Griffins beat Moose

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cory Emmerton scored twice and Darren Haydar had three assists as the Grand Rapids Griffins exploded with four goals in the second to beat the Manibota Moose 5-1 in American Hockey League action Friday.

Manitoba opened the scoring just under seven minutes in when Mike Keane sent a pass to Dusty Collins who snapped a wrist shot past Griffins netminder Daniel Larsson.

The good news for the Moose (38-15-0-5) would end there.

Grand Rapids tied the game at one on a Justin Abdelkader shorthanded goal 5:16 into the second, before Emmerton scored his first of the night on the power play at 13:40.

Evan McGrath put the Griffins (33-13-6-5) up by two just 30 seconds later.

Following a Manitoba timeout, Emmerton scored his second of the game 1:25 later, spelling the end of the night for Moose goalie Cory Schneider who was replaced by Curtis Sanford.

Garrett Stafford made the score 5-1 for Grand Rapids midway through the third to round out the scoring.

Larsson was forced to make just 19 saves for the win.

Manitoba stay atop the AHL’s North Division with 81 points, but the Griffins are now just four points back.
