SAN ANTONIO – Josh Engel, Alex Foster and Jeremy D’Amigo each had a goal and an assist as the Toronto Marlies opened up a 10-game road trip with a 6-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage in American Hockey League action Wednesday.
Keith Aulie, Justin Hodgman and Jay Rosehill also scored for Toronto (3-6-0).
Garrett Stafford had the lone goal for San Antonio (7-3-1), which saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.
Toronto starter James Reimer stopped 11 of 12 shots he faced before leaving the game after the first period. Jussi Rynnas stopped all 24 shots he saw in relief.
Al Montoya made 18 saves for San Antonio.
Aulie opened the scoring 14:38 into the first period. Foster sent a cross-ice pass to Aulie above the left crease, and the defenceman beat Montoya high to his stick side.
Engel gave Toronto a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at the 16:32 mark of the first. Matt Lashoff passed from the slot to Engel at the right faceoff circle, and his shot went low past Montoya.
Stafford cut the deficit to 2-1 with one minute remaining in the first period when he fired a bullet from the blue-line low past goaltender Reimer’s glove. Stafford leads AHL defencemen in scoring with 11 points.
Toronto pushed their extended their lead 3-1 when left-wing D’Amigo scored a power-play goal 15:56 into the second period.
Just 57 seconds later, the Marlies extended their lead 4-1 as Foster’s shot from the slot went past Montoya’s shoulder.
Toronto went up 5-1 lead 2:11 into the third. D’Amigo sent a backhand pass to set up Hodgman above the crease, who beat Montoya high.
Rosehill capped the scoring at 12:11 of the third period.
