Evan Rankin scores winner as Grand Rapids defeats Hamilton 3-2 in AHL action

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Evan Rankin scored the winner in the third Wednesday as the Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 in the American Hockey League.

Greg Amadio and Logan Pyett had the other goals for Grand Rapids (17-16-5), while Joey MacDonald made 19 saves.

J.T. Wyman and Mathieu Carle replied for Hamilton (20-12-5), while Curtis Sanford made 45 saves.

Rankin scored the winner at 8:22 of the third after Sergei Kolosov drove towards the Hamilton net. After Sanford made the initial save, Rankin jammed the loose puck past the Bulldogs netminder.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 10:35 of the first period. Olivier Fortier sent the puck to Wyman, who snapped a shot past MacDonald.

The Griffins tied the game 1-1 at 18:56 when Pyett fired a shot at Sanford. He made the save, but had the puck bounce in off one of his own players.

Amadio gave Grand Rapids a 2-1 lead at 8:14 of the second, tapping a pass from Ilari Filppula behind Sanford.

Hamilton knotted the score again at 7:00 of the third when Carle blasted a shot past MacDonald from the point.
