Flyers captain Briere to play in minors as he recovers from groin injury

PHILADELPHIA – Flyers centre Daniel Briere will play two games this week for Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate, his first action in more than a month because of a groin strain.

Briere has five goals and nine points in only nine games this season and will work on his conditioning in two games for the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Briere had surgery Oct. 25 to fix a torn abdominal muscle and he left a Dec. 2 game against Tampa Bay with a groin injury. He hasn’t played for the Atlantic Division-leading Flyers since that game.

The Phantoms play the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday and the Lowell Devils on Friday.
