VANCOUVER, B.C. – After years of deftly handling a stick for the Vancouver Canucks, former captain Trevor Linden has been asked to carry the Olympic torch.
Linden says he’s honoured by the invitation but doesn’t yet know what leg he’ll be running during the cross-country trip.
The retired hockey great shared the information as he endorsed the highly-anticipated Electronic Arts’ video game NHL 10 in Vancouver.
The 2010 torch relay begins its trek in Victoria on Oct. 30, and will travel 45,000 kilometres around Canada.
The relay will make stops in every province and territory during its 106-day journey before the Olympics begin in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C. in February.
Other athletes slated to carry the torch include NBA star Steve Nash from Victoria and Calgary golfer Stephen Ames.
