In the Crowd Shots section of the Sept. 13 issue and in many radio call-in shows, I hear people stating that the powers that be should “leave the game alone.”
There is always the fear of “taking hitting out of the game” or the suggestions that “the game is fine as it is.”
Thank goodness that these people were not around when hockey was in its infancy.
We would still have a “rover” and there would be no forward passing in today’s game.
I applaud the NHL for its forward thinking and open-mindedness with relation to the on ice product and hope that they continue it.
Forward thinking is something that has been a long time coming into hockey and will separate it from many of the other major sports.
