Give Joe his due

Tyson Ramsey, Brandon, Man.

I have been an avid fan and faithful subscriber of THN for the last 10 years.  I think it is the best publication depicting the best game on earth.

However, I am a little confused as to why Joe Sakic was not the cover story in the last issue.

Has he not earned that right over Mike Cammalleri and the rebuilding Habs?  (A rebuild that we all know isn’t going to be a quick one and could have been saved for future issues.)

And how can you call the story about him a ‘tribute’?  Some of the Letters to the Editor are just about as long!

He was truly one of the greatest players, leaders and ambassadors the game of hockey has ever seen. Everything he did was selfless and done with class whether it was scoring goals or deciding to retire the year before the Olympics are being held in his home province.

Yes, he was known as ‘Quoteless Joe,’  but was he ‘Invisible Joe’ as well?  I am thinking ahead to Sidney Crosby’s retirement and I am quite sure his ‘tribute’ will look very different and we’re not even sure yet whether there will be all those stats to fill up space.

All is not lost, however, as Oct. 1 is “Joe Sakic Night” in Denver, so warm up your cameras and give Joe his due and make it an even two dozen THN cover appearances for one of hockey’s true legends.
