Goal and assist for three Aces as Alaska beats Victoria Salmon Kings 5-2

Alaska leads the series 2-1 with the fourth game going Friday in Victoria. Mike Scott and Matt Robinson rounded out the scoring for the Aces, the defending ECHL champions. Derek Krestanovich had a goal and assist to lead Victoria. Steve Lingren had the other Salmon Kings’ goal.

Victoria outshot Alaska 37-30, but Derek Gustafson made 35 saves for the win in the Aces’ net.

Julien Ellis stopped 25 shots in goal for the Salmon Kings and took the loss.

The series is being played in a 2-3-2 format. The teams split the first two games in Anchorage, Alaska, while games three to five will be hosted by the Salmon Kings. Games six and seven, if necessary, will be back in Alaska.

A crowd of 3,356 witnessed the first playoff game by a Victoria major hockey team since the WHL’s Cougars in the spring of 1989. That team relocated to Prince George, B.C., after the 1993-94 season.
