Hamilton scores six times in second period of 7-3 AHL win over Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Brock Trotter scored the game winner during Hamilton’s six-goal second period, leading the Bulldogs to a 7-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins in AHL action Thursday.

Trailing 2-1 after one period, the Bulldogs (22-8-5) broke the game open with three goals in a 3:55 span early in the second. Frederic St. Denis tied the game with his second of the season at 1:17, P.K. Subban put Hamilton ahead 26 seconds later and Trotter extended the advantage at 5:12.

Andre Benoit, Tom Pyatt and Ryan Russell added goals later in the period, and Hamilton enjoyed a 7-2 advantage after 40 minutes.

Pyatt finished with a goal and three assists, while Subban added a goal, two assists and a third-period fight. Ryan White had the other Hamilton goal, while Mathieu Darche chipped in with four assists.

Cory Emmerton, Jan Mursak and Andy Delmore had goals for the Griffins (18-16-1), who have dropped a season-high five straight games.

Hamilton goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 13-of-14 shots to earn the win in relief of starter Curtis Sanford, who left with an injury after making 11 saves.

Daniel Larsson and Thomas McCollum combined to stop 31 shots for Grand Rapids.
