Kevin Poulin’s huge stick save kept the Islanders in the lead against the Blues, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to hold off the powerhouse Western team.
At the time of Saturday’s highlight play, it was looking so good for the Islanders. They were leading the St. Louis Blues nearly halfway through the final regulation period and were also outshooting the relentless Western power. The Islanders looked in line to win their third in four games.
If Kevin Poulin doesn’t stretch to knock this one out of line enough for it to knock a friendly side of the post, the Blues may have been able to squeeze a win out in regulation.
Unfortunately for Poulin and the Isles, T.J. Oshie scored with 27 seconds left in the third to tie it up. Even more unfortunately for the Islanders, they had a goal called back in overtime, which put St. Louis in position for a 4-3 shootout win. The Blues are now just one points behind Chicago with two games in hand, while the Islanders are six points out of a wild card position.
