House fire in Lakeshore, Ont., kills brother of former NHLer Warren Rychel

LAKESHORE, Ont. – Provincial police say they don’t suspect foul play in the death of the brother of former NHL player Warren Rychel.

The body of 39-year-old Andrew Rychel was discovered following a fire Monday morning in a home in Lakeshore, Ont., just east of Windsor.

Firefighters were called to the home at about 8 a.m.

Robert Mendonca, Lakeshore assistant deputy fire chief, says the man was found near a door, and he appeared to be trying to escape the fire.

A post-mortem was done on Rychel’s body Monday afternoon, and police say his death is not considered suspicious.

Warren Rychel, who owns the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, played in the NHL from 1988-89 to 1998-99 with Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Colorado and Anaheim.
