UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) — Considering the opponent, this
could be a must-win game for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Looking to close in on the final playoff spot in the Eastern
Conference, the Hurricanes will square off against the lowly New
York Islanders on Thursday.
Carolina, which is coming off a 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on
Tuesday, sits in ninth place in the East – five points out of
the final postseason spot.
Matt Cullen scored and Cam Ward turned aside 29 shots Tuesday
for the Hurricanes, who honored retired defenseman Glen Wesley
prior to the game.
“At home, for whatever reason, we haven’t played very well,”
left wing Ray Whitney said. “It is embarrassing. It’s
