Hurricanes sign forward Patrick Eaves to three-year contract

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes have signed winger Patrick Eaves to a three-year contract.

The Hurricanes announced Wednesday they locked up the 24-year-old forward in a deal worth about US$1.4 million each year.

Eaves came to Carolina from Ottawa last February in the deal that sent Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman to the Senators. Because of nagging injuries, he skated in just 11 of the Hurricanes’ 24 games and had shoulder surgery on March 28.

He had five goals and 10 assists in a total of 37 games with Ottawa and Carolina.

The former first-round draft pick could have become a restricted free agent July 1, meaning the Hurricanes could have matched any offer he received from another team.
