On behalf of all Detroiters and Red Wing fans everywhere, I want to thank the Ilitch family, the brilliant Red Wing staff led by Jim Devellano and Ken Holland as well as all of the Red Wing players for bringing the Stanley Cup back to where it belongs – in Hockeytown.
In a year where we have had to deal with a poor economy, a mayoral scandal and other assorted problems, the Red Wings have given us so much joy and even more, some of our pride back.
The Ilitch family continues to stand as a model for our community in working in whatever way possible to rejuvenate and bring hope back to Detroit. The Red Wings are just the latest example of that.
We are so very blessed to have such a great owner and civic leader among us. The team itself represents the very same ideals that reflect the Ilitch family and most Detroiters – hard working, honorable and never doubting themselves and their abilities.
From coach Babcock, captain Lidstrom and throughout the roster, this team has led by example throughout this season. We are so proud that Stanley has come back home again!
