Islanders’ C Nielsen knocked out of game with head injury after hit from Rangers’ Gaborik

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen has been knocked out of the game against the New York Rangers by a head injury, resulting from a hit into the boards, and won’t return.

Nielsen was playing the puck near centre ice in front of the penalty box when Rangers forward Marian Gaborik drove him facefirst into the boards with a shoulder to the back with 3:31 left in the first period. Both players fell to the ice, and Gaborik was then jumped by Radek Martinek, who came to Nielsen’s defence.
