Jannik Hansen ‘checked out’ OK after scary collapse on the bench

The Vancouver Canucks say Jannik Hansen appears to be OK after he collapsed on the bench against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

A frightening thing happened on the Vancouver Canucks’ bench Saturday night, when forward Jannik Hansen collapsed after taking a hit during the second period against the Calgary Flames.

Hansen slumped over on the bench immediately after leaving the ice. His teammates rushed to his aid and signaled for help.

He left the bench under his own power and was taken to hospital for further evaluation.

The collapse happened shortly after Hansen took a hit from Calgary defender Dennis Wideman in the corner. The blow appeared to catch Hansen solidly in the chest, and there was no head contact.

Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said Hansen checked out OK at the hospital.

“Everything looks real good,” Desjardins said after the game. “He was at the hospital, everything’s checking out though.”

The 28-year-old Hansen has eight goals and 13 points in 32 games this season.
