Hamilton moved into second place in the North Division standings with an overall record of 7-6-0-1. Kyle Chipchura, Jonathan Ferland, Mathieu Aubin, Michael Lambert and Mikhail Grabovski scored for the Bulldogs.
Chipchura opened the scoring at the 14:46 mark of the first period with a low backhand shot that fooled Omaha netminder Brent Krahn.
Just seven seconds later, Ferland scored to break the club’s previous record of two goals in eight seconds set by Jason Chimera and Jani Rita on Dec. 9, 2001 against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Back-up goaltender Curtis McElhinney replaced Krahn between the pipes for Omaha immediately following the Bulldogs’ second goal. McElhinney played the remainder of the opening period, but Krahn returned at the start of the second period and finished the game in goal for the Knights.
Aubin rounded out the first period scoring with his second goal of the season at 18:53 to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Michael Lambert and Corey Locke both assisted on the power-play goal.
Hamilton increased its lead in the second period when Maxim Lapierre recovered the puck behind the Knights’ net and fed a pass to Lambert, who made the score 4-0.
Grabovski added a late goal with 1:02 left in the game.
