“Jets” name registered with Canadian Intellectual Property Office

MINNEAPOLIS – Amid rumors the Atlanta Thrashers will rise again as the Winnipeg Jets, has learned that the Winnipeg Jets name and logo was registered with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office June 2.

A security agreement was placed by Citibank, which is one of the lenders involved with True North Sports and Entertainment, the owners of the Jets. If the name were anything other than the Jets, it would have been filed with the security agreement with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office under that name.

The Jets will unveil their name prior to their seventh overall draft pick, but because of trademark issues and concerns over knockoff logos, the team will not unveil its logo. Instead the draft pick is expected to don an NHL sweater.
