Jimmy Fallon takes aim at NHL’s funniest mug shots with hilarious NHL Superlatives

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon did his own preparation for the playoffs, making fun of some of the NHL’s most ridiculous player photos. No team got it worse than the Tampa Bay Lightning who had four players featured in the gag.

Well, good luck to Vladislav Namestnikov for the rest of his career, because from now on there will be a group of fans who call him nothing but Russian Bieber. The Tampa Bay Lightning rookie has Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon to thank for that one.

Namestnikov is just one of several players Fallon targeted in a new round of NHL Superlatives, which is a gag that plays on the high school tradition of handing out pseudo-awards to the students who have things like the best smile or funniest laugh or those who are the most likely to succeed.

Come for the dig at Namestnikov, stay for Tonight Show band leader Questlove’s inability to control himself when Fallon makes fun of Lightning rookie goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy:

Namestnikov and Vasilevskiy weren’t the only Lightning players, either. Jonathan Drouin and Valtteri Filppula were also among those featured in the segment.

There’s a tendency for the Stanley Cup champions to make the late night talk show rounds following their victory, and if the Lightning – the THN consensus pick for champion – do happen to take home the Cup, we wonder what they would say to Fallon about the superlatives.

And if it’s the Predators who take home the Cup, we have a feeling Matt Cullen will be stopping by the show to offer his opinion on the joke. Not sure if he’ll say it was a good one, though.
