The alternates will help in the selection process during next Friday’s fantasy draft to determine the teams for the Jan. 30 all-star game in Raleigh, N.C.

Staal, the dynamic Carolina Hurricanes centre, and Lidstrom, the stalwart Detroit Red Wings defenceman, were named team captains Tuesday.
