Kings defenceman Denis Gauthier given two-game suspension by NHL

NEW YORK – The NHL suspended Los Angeles Kings defenceman Denis Gauthier for two games Saturday.

The punishment is the result of an incident midway through the third period in last Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Gauthier made contact with Sharks forward Patrick Marleau on an icing play. Gauthier was assessed a minor penalty for boarding. Marleau was not injured on the play.

Gauthier will forfeit US$22,580.64 and will be eligible to return for Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Earlier this month, Gauthier sat out five games after hammering Montreal Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges with an elbow to the head.
