Leafs re-sign Alex Steen to US$3.4-million, two-year extension

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Alex Steen to a US$3.4-million, two-year contract extension.

Steen, who turns 24 next Saturday, had 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) and a minus-2 rating in 56 games before taking to the ice Saturday night against Atlanta. He was Toronto’s first choice, 24th overall, in the 2002 NHL entry draft.

He will earn $1.7 million in each of the 2008-’09 and 2009-10 seasons after coming out of his entry-level contract.
