TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday that the hockey club has agreed to terms with Niagara University Purple Eagles free agent right-winger Kyle Rogers to a two-year entry-level contract.
“Kyle has tremendous size, very good speed and is a very effective, physical player,” said Maple Leafs vice-president and general manager Cliff Fletcher. “We look forward to Kyle joining the Toronto Marlies (of the AHL) for the balance of the regular season and playoffs. “
Rogers, a 23-year-old native of Erie, Pa., recently completed his third season with Niagara University of the NCAA. The 6-3, 215-pounder played 34 games this season, and established career highs in goals (10), assists (13), points (23) and penalty minutes (40). In three seasons with the Purple Eagles, Rogers played 97 games and collected 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points, along with 89 minutes in penalties.
