TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier underwent successful wrist surgery Friday.
The arthroscopic procedure was done at the Philadelphia Hand Centre to repair damaged cartilage in his right wrist, the NHL team said Friday.
Lecavalier will miss the last five games of the season. He’s expected to resume unrestricted training within four to six weeks, the team said.
The operation was originally scheduled for last summer but was delayed because Lecavalier needed shoulder surgery. He also underwent left wrist surgery two years ago.
Lecavalier, a four-time all-star centre, has 67 points (29-38) in 77 games this season. He signed a US$85-million, 11-year contract extension last July.
Lecavalier led Tampa Bay to its only Stanley Cup title five years ago.
