Lokomotiv stave off elimination with 3-2 OT win over Atlant in Game 5 of KHL East final

A 3-2 overtime win by Yaroslavl Lokomotiv Thursday gave them their second win in a row, but Atlant Mytishchi still enjoys a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Kontinental League Gagarin Cup Western Conference final.

Lokomotiv overcame a 2-0 deficit at the start of the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime.   Ivan Tkachenko scored the game-winner, his second goal of the day, in the 70th minute to keep Lokomotiv’s season alive, to the delight of the sell-out crowd in Yaroslavl. 

Atlant built their lead on goals by Sergei Mozyakin in the 16th minute and Jarslav Obshut in the 22nd minute.  Facing a 2-0 deficit as the third period began, Lokomotiv was undaunted, rallying behind goals from Tkachenko in the 51st minute and Alexander Galimov, who converted in the final seconds of regulation as Lokomotiv was on a power play and using an extra skater, having pulled goaltender Alexander Vyukhin at the 58:47 mark.

The KHL Gagarin Cup continues Fridaywith the Game 5 of the Salavat Yulaev-Metallurg Magnitogorsk Eastern Conference final in Ufa. Salavat Yulaev leads the series 3-1.  Lokomotiv and Atlant return to action on Saturday in Mytishchi.
