First of all, congratulations to team Canada for an excellent Olympic gold medal victory in men’s hockey.
I noticed an interesting parallel between the world juniors and the Olympic tournaments this year. In the WJC, Canada beat the U.S. in the preliminary round, which meant the U.S. had to play an extra game to get back to the gold medal game.
The U.S. went on to beat good Finland and Sweden teams and used the confidence gained in those games to beat Canada in overtime for the gold.
In the Olympics, the U.S. beat Canada in the preliminary round, which meant Canada had to play an extra game to get back to the gold medal game.
I firmly believe the Germany game was the turning point for Canada. That game gave Canada their mojo back.
They carried that momentum through their route of Russia and ultimately to an overtime victory over the U.S. for the gold.
Sometimes you have to fail before you succeed.
