TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo got some good news on Sunday.
One day after leaving a game against Philadelphia with a right knee injury, he found out that he’d only suffered a contusion. Colaiacovo is expected to return in seven to 10 days.
He’ll stay back in Toronto when the team goes on a three-game Western road trip next week.
The 24-year-old Colaiacovo missed Toronto’s first 37 games this season after recovering from an injury to the same knee. He had surgery on the knee after getting hurt in the Leafs 80th game last season.
Colaiacovo, who was drafted 17th overall in 2001, also missed 65 games due to a concussion-related symptoms over the past two seasons.
The Toronto native had no points in five games this season, and has 10 goals and 26 points in 82 career NHL games.
