Marc Methot flips Lucas Lessio with a beautiful old-school hipcheck

No injury. No fight. No problem. Marc Methot hit Lucas Lessio with a brilliant hipcheck on Saturday that’ll surely make the end-of-season highlight reel. The best part? Everyone kept playing hockey afterward.

A perfect hipcheck is a thing of beauty, isn’t it?

The Ottawa Senators’ Marc Methot had all the ingredients for a wicked and clean hipcheck when he took out Arizona’s Lucas Lessio on Saturday.

Methot went low and swept to the side directly into Lessio’s path at the Ottawa blueline, catching the Coyotes forward across the hips and sending him tumbling head-over-skates to the ice.

Lessio dusted himself off after the hit and got back into the play.

The Ottawa fans loved it, Lessio wasn’t injured by it and no Coyotes started a fight because of it.

Goons take note: that’s what you call a “hockey play.”

It was exactly the kind of hit Marc Methot is known for. The 29-year-old defenceman is in a contract year and making $3 million against the cap on a team that’s far removed from the playoff picture.

With hits like this one, it’s no wonder teams have interest in acquiring the blueliner before the trade deadline.
