Marco Scandella channels Bobby Orr, roofs spin-o-rama for beautiful tally

Marco Scandella scored a highlight-reel goal Thursday night by beating Filip Forsberg with a spin-o-rama and then going top shelf on Pekka Rinne in one fluid motion. Scandella’s tally was his 10th of the season and 22nd point, and set new career highs for the fourth-year blueliner.

In his fourth full season in the NHL, 25-year-old Minnesota Wild blueliner Marco Scandella has shown that he’s more than capable on the defensive side of the puck. And if there were any doubts about his offensive acumen, his spin-o-rama against the Nashville Predators should lay those to rest.

With two minutes remaining in the second frame of Minnesota’s 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators, Scandella took a pass from Matt Cooke and only had one player to beat — rookie Filip Forsberg. As Scandella cradled the pass, he spun to his backhand, pulled a complete 360 degree turn and then proceeded to fire the puck up and over the shoulder of Pekka Rinne with a deft flick of the wrists:

The tally was Scandella’s 10th of the season, which ties him for 24th in goals by blueliners this season and puts him among some elite company including Duncan Keith, Andrei Markov and Victor Hedman. He also has 22 points this season — a career high — in just 63 games. Last season, Scandella registered three goals and 17 points in 76 games.

With the 4-2 victory over the Predators, the Wild tied an NHL record with their 12th straight road victory. It was also the first game since Jan. 15 that Devan Dubnyk did not start in goal for Minnesota. Former starting netminder Darcy Kuemper got the nod and turned aside 32 shots for the victory.
