WINNIPEG – Marty Murray scored the shootout winner as the Manitoba Moose edged the Texas Stars 5-4 in American Hockey League play Saturday.
Ivan Vishnevskiy put Texas up by one in the shootout, but Marco Rosa evened it on Manitoba’s first shot.
After three scoreless rounds, Murray potted one past Texas goaltender Todd Ford to keep the Moose (21-14-4) undefeated in six shootouts this season.
Mathieu Beaudoin opened the scoring for Texas (20-11-6) at 17:05 in the first, and Fabian Brunnstrom added one more early in the second to put the Stars up 2-0.
But the Moose rallied for three consecutive goals in the second as Sergei Shirokov, Guillaume Desbiens and Michael Grabner each scored to make it 3-2.
Texas regained the lead in the third behind two goals from centre Travis Morin. That nearly held for a Stars’ win until Mike Keane tied it at four with 34 seconds left in the third to send it to extra time.
Daren Machesney stopped 36 shots for the win, while at the other end Todd Ford made 24 saves.
