EAST LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan State hockey player who participated in an on-ice attack on a Michigan skater has withdrawn from the university after being suspended from the team.

Spartans coach Rick Comley says Andrew Conboy told coaches Monday he is dropping out. A second player, Corey Tropp, still is enrolled but also is suspended from the team.

University of Michigan police say they are reviewing whether to investigate Saturday’s incident.

Michigan defenceman Steve Kampfer was hit into the boards by Conboy, and Tropp hit him in the neck area with his stick while Kampfer was prone on the ice.

Campus police are investigating an incident in the Spartans’ locker-room after the game.
