Wild defenseman Marco Scandella eventually buried the biscuit, but Nino Niederreiter and Matt Dumba had some fun at the expense of the Canucks before the ultimate dagger. Watch Minnesota crush some spirits.
It hasn’t been a great season for the Vancouver Canucks. Though the franchise has a nice array of young talent coming up, it is very much a team in transition and hey, transitions can be hard. But this goal that Minnesota scored against the squad last night? It’s rather heartbreaking.
Yeah, that’s a tough one to swallow. The Wild players were toying with the Canucks like a cat with a ball of yarn. The score was already 5-1 at the time and Ryan Miller seemed…maybe not spiritually broken after the game, but almost at peace with devastation. Hello darkness, my old friend…
With the loss, Vancouver is now 3-5-2 in its past 10 games and sinking to the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Perhaps it’s for the best in the long run – a high draft pick would add another weapon to a growing arsenal that includes Bo Horvat, Jared McCann, Ben Hutton, Jake Virtanen, Hunter Shinkaruk, Brock Boeser, Thatcher Demko and more. But right now it’s rough.
On the other hand, Minnesota got a crucial two points in the murderous Central Division race, hopping over Chicago for the No. 3 seed in the process. The Wild certainly have the depth to make things interesting in the post-season if they can get all their players on the same page and last night, Minnesota did just that.
