Montreal Canadiens re-sign left-winger Mathieu Darche to one-year contract

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens re-signed left-winger Mathieu Darche to a one-year contract extension worth US$700,000, the club announced Friday.

The 34-year-old, who made $500,000 this season, had 12 goals and 14 assists in 59 games in 2010-11 with the Habs. Darche added a goal and an assist in seven playoff games.

“Mathieu is a classy veteran player who displays great leadership and determination, and we strongly believe he can help us achieve our goals in the upcoming season,” Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier said in a statement.

In 189 NHL games with Montreal, Columbus, Nashville, San Jose and Tampa Bay, Darche has registered 25 goals and 35 assists.
