First, I’d like to express my great thanks to my Penguins for an unbelievably exciting season. I can’t wait to be back in my seats in E 17 next October.
Second, after reading Rob Seib’s letter to the editor “Igloo Memories,” I’d like to share one of my most cherished memories of the Igloo.
As a child I grew up marveling at Mario and the Penguins of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Now as a season ticket holder, I am privileged to see my nieces and nephews do the same at Sid the Kid, Geno, Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Staal.
I took my niece Alexis to her first hockey game in the 2005-06 season. During the pre-game Ryan Malone flipped a puck over the glass to her and she had a grin wider than the Mellon Arena ice. Later on in the game after a penalty call, I turned to see her thumbing through her game program to look up the penalty signal the referee made.
I smiled and knew Pittsburgh had another new hockey fan.
Now, on the day the Pens traded the rights to Malone to Tampa Bay, I’d like to say thank you to “Bugsy” for making my niece’s day and bringing us even closer together.
Good luck and take care of that nose!
