Nash, Doan and Staal will return to play for Canada at world championship

The core players who helped Canada win gold at last year’s IIHF world hockey championship will be back this year.

Forwards Rick Nash, Shane Doan, Eric Staal, Jonathan Toews and goaltender Cam Ward are among the first group of players who have committed to playing for Canada next month in Halifax and Quebec City.

They are joined by goaltender Pascal Leclaire and defencemen Jay Bouwmeester, Duncan Keith and Steve Staios.

Other forwards include Jason Chimera, Jamal Mayers, Derek Roy, Patrick Sharp and Ray Whitney.

Canada opens training camp April 24 in Quebec City.

Canada plays its first tournament game in Halifax on May 2.
