The winger, who has four goals and two assists in 26 games was injured in the final minutes of the Islanders’ 7-4 victory against the New York Rangers on Sunday.
It’s the second injury to a key New York forward in just over a week. The Islanders lost captain and leading scorer Alexei Yashin for up to a month when he sprained his right knee on Nov. 25 against Washington.
The Islanders, who entered Tuesday night’s home game against Ottawa with a one-point lead in the Atlantic Division, scored four goals in back-to-back losses without Yashin. They rebounded with 12 total goals in consecutive wins.
New York recalled forward Jeremy Colliton from Bridgeport of the AHL on Tuesday and planned to use him on the fourth line.
Colliton scored in four straight games with Bridgeport, including the overtime winner at Lowell on Saturday. He has five goals and five assists in 22 games.
Colliton had a goal and an assist in 19 games with the Islanders last season.
