EDMONTON – The community-based group that owns the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers wants more details from pharmacy tycoon Daryl Katz on his latest offer to buy the team.
One thing the 33-member Edmonton Investors Group wants to know is whether Katz would be willing to sign an agreement to keep the Oilers in the Alberta capital.
The investors also want Katz to comment on media reports that have suggested he would be willing to put up $100 million for a new arena.
Questions on that issue include whether he would want part ownership of the arena, who would control it and where in the city it would be built.
The investors group says it will make a recommendation about Katz’s offer at an information meeting of shareholders on Jan. 21.
Katz has made several bids to buy the Oilers; the latest came last month when he offered to buy the team for $188 million.
