Oilers look to continue fast start

CHICAGO (Ticker) — The Edmonton Oilers hope to continue their best start in 23 years when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.
Edmonton is off to its first 4-0-0 start since 1985-86, when it won its first five games of the season.
The Oilers have not been dominant in their victories, however, winning each game by one goal. Edmonton completed a home-and-home sweep of provincial rival Calgary on Saturday with a 3-2 triumph.
Goaltender Mathieu Garon is off to a splendid start, making 31 saves or more in his first three games of the season. The 30-year-old stopped 31 shots in Saturday’s victory.
Chicago is trying to recover from a slow start, which cost coach Denis Savard his job on October 16.
The Blackhawks, who have earned at least one point in four straight games, got new coach Joel Quenneville his first victory on Sunday, posting a 4-2 triumph over the Vancouver Canucks. Chicago is 1-0-1 under Quenneville.
Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane have gotten off to good starts for Chicago, each notching four goals and four assists. Sharp has recorded a point in four straight games, while the 19-year-old Kane has three tallies and three assists in his last two contests.
