Ontario League player accidentally runs kid over during pregame warmups

During the pregame warmups of an Ontario League game over the weekend, Flames prospect Hunter Smith accidentally threw a massive forearm shiver to the head of a minor hockey player. Good news, though, as the kid was no worse for wear.

On Friday night, during the pregame skate of an Ontario League contest, a minor hockey player had been chosen to rip around the ice with the Oshawa Generals. All was going well until he found the arm of the Generals players.

The video, which we first saw on Yahoo!’s Buzzing The Net, shows that the poor kid didn’t even stand a chance.

It didn’t stop the young boy, however, as he was back on his feet and ripping around the ice in no time. Thankfully he had his helmet on, and the initial jolt sent him flying.

The arm he ran into was that of Hunter Smith, a Calgary Flames prospect who is listed at 6-foot-7, 208 pounds. Suffice to say Smith can knock around opponents with little difficulty, so it’s great the boy was able to hop back onto his skates so quickly. When he got back to his skates, he was met with a rousing cheer.

You can see the remorse in Smith’s body language, as he looks back at the kid a few times before going over and leaning down to presumably ask him if he’s all right.

Good work to the little guy for getting up and out there.
