The Generals are now 2-0 at the Memorial Cup after beating the host Remparts in overtime. Draft-eligible defenseman Stephen Desrocher unleashed the winner and was clearly excited in his post-game interview on TV.
It’s been a tight Memorial Cup so far, with all three games being decided by just one goal. In Sunday’s action, the OHL’s Oshawa Generals continued their winning ways by taking out the host Quebec Remparts in overtime.
Vancouver pick Cole Cassels won the draw back to defenseman Stephen Desrocher, who snuck a laser shot bar-down on goalie Zach Fucale (Montreal). It was a pretty goal and Desrocher was clearly excited, as evidenced by his NSFW language in the post-game interview. Check out the goal at the beginning of the clip below, then skip ahead to 1:57 if you want to hear Desrocher’s colorful description:
Desrocher has been on a roll lately. The 6-foot-4, 198-pound blueliner had five points in Oshawa’s five-game defeat of the Erie Otters in the OHL final and already has three points in two Memorial Cup games, putting him second in the tourney to teammate Michael Dal Colle.
Passed over in the draft last season, Desrocher definitely has a shot at being selected this summer in Florida. His impact has been much greater as an 18-year-old and the NHL’s Central Scouting bureau ranked him 145th among North American skaters in its final ranking.
Given that the list came out in early April, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Desrocher climb higher in the minds of NHL scouts who have the benefit of watching another month and a half of his season. And after his performance against Quebec on Sunday, you certainly can’t say the young Toronto product is forgettable.
