LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Ottawa Senators returned centre Stephane Da Costa to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y., on Sunday.
The 22-year-old was recalled by the Senators on Friday, a day after forwards Zack Smith and Kaspars Daugavins both left with injuries in a game against San Jose.
But Da Costa didn’t suit up in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks as both Smith and Daugavins were able to play.
Da Costa started the season with Ottawa, registering five points (3-2) and eight penalty minutes in 22 games before being assigned to the AHL on Nov. 27.
In 21 games with Binghamton this season, Da Costa has nine goals and 10 assists.
The Frenchman was signed as an undrafted college free agent by the Senators in March 2011. He scored his first NHL goal in Ottawa’s 6-5 loss at Toronto on Oct. 8.
Ottawa continues its six-game road trip Monday in Los Angeles against the Kings.
