Ovechkin, Capitals hope to rebound vs. Rangers

Washington (20-11-3) at NY Rangers (22-12-2), 7:00 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) — Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals
look to bounce back from an embarrassing loss when they square
off against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

Ovechkin had a six-game scoring streak snapped Saturday as the
Capitals suffered a 7-1 thrashing by the Philadelphia Flyers,
who had eliminated Washington from the playoffs last season.

Brooks Laich scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who outshot
the Flyers by a 48-28 margin but still had their five-game
winning streak snapped.

Washington hopes to rebound and pick up its eighth win in 10
games against the Rangers, who had a three-game winning streak
end with Saturday’s 3-2 setback to the San Jose Sharks.

Zherdev netted a shorthanded goal for New York, which has one
regulation win since November 24. The Rangers have still posted
a 7-5-0 record over that stretch.

New York, which is opening a three-game homestand, will have to
contain Ovechkin. The reigning Hart Trophy winner leads the
Capitals with 20 goals and 43 points.
