P-J Axelsson signs four-year deal with Swedish Elite League team Frolunda

Long-time Bruin P-J Axelsson has decided to leave the NHL, signing a four-year contract with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League.

Originally selected in the seventh round of the 1995 draft by Boston, Axelsson began his career as a Bruin during the 1997-98 season. With an 11-year run, Axelsson was the longest tenured Bruin.

With 287 points in 797 career NHL games, Axelsson wasn’t known for his offensive instincts, but was nonetheless recognized as one of the game’s best defensive forwards.

The 34-year-old won gold with Sweden at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy.
